15 Month Fulltime - Art Therapy Diploma
Program entry is September each year. Direct program instruction is offered 2 days per week and 7 weekends. Practical experience continues throughout the fifteen month period for 2 days per week. A final project completes the program.

Courses
Child Art Therapy
An introduction to the practice of art therapy with children. This course provides understanding of issues specific to this population and the usefulness of art therapy as a treatment modality.
Adolescent Art Therapy
Provides insight into adolescent treatment issues and students develop their capacity to work effectively with this population using art therapy.
Art Therapy Readings
Increases students’ awareness and knowledge about the history of art therapy as well examines the works of pioneers and practitioners in the field.
Art Therapy Studio
An experiential course which gives students an in depth comprehension and appreciation of this form of self awareness and expression and thus develop sensitivity to client process in art therapy.
Art Therapy Skills
Focuses on developing certain skills specific to art therapy.
Assessment
Familiarizes students with assessment procedures, case presentations and evaluations used in art therapy and clinical settings.
Case Studies
Students prepare and present case studies for assessment, treatment, and professional development purposes.
Family Art Therapy
Examines family therapy, family art therapy and the family as an emotional system. Methods and approaches in family art therapy are presented, along with particular treatment issues.
Group Art Therapy
Explores the practical aspects of group work with a focus on group art therapy. Students have the opportunity to facilitate a short term weekly art therapy group.
Art Therapy with Special Populations
Presentations are made by practicing art therapists who bring their experience, approaches and techniques for student learning.
Ethics
Emphasizes concerns which influence art therapists in professional conduct and the law.
Multiculturalism
Brings to awareness issues of racial and cultural difference that are encountered in the field.
Theories of Personality and Consciousness
Introduces a wide range of psychological theories applicable to the culturally diverse populations that are encountered in art therapy practice.
Final Project
The final project illustrates the application of art therapy in an area of specialization.
SUPERVISION
Supervision is conducted in conjunction with practical experience and supports students in their work with clients. This weekly small group seminar facilitates learning about the application of art therapy as a unique medium for treatment. Students complete 90 hours of supervision.
PRACTICA
Students are engaged in practical experience in the community such as schools, agencies, hospitals, residential treatment and community settings. 700 hours of art therapy practice are required which include client contact and site responsibilities. The institute assists students in arranging practica. Students are covered by the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute liability insurance.

- On acceptance, a letter of confirmation and date of entry is sent to the applicant.
- Candidates are invited to apply early. Applications are due by March 30th.
- Subject to space availability late applications may be considered.

Tuition
- Tuition fees for the program are $12,800.00 payable in four installments. Foreign student fees are $13,500.00 (CAD)
- On acceptance into the program an $80.00 CAD non-refundable registration fee is required.
- Canadian students are eligible to apply for Canada Student Loans.
- On entry into the program students will sign a financial agreement contract as required by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia.
- Extra to program costs: Students should have access to a digital camera and Power Point for recording and presentation purposes.
