“Art is an adventure for you alone to experience first hand.”

I started my working life as a secondary school teacher before moving into social justice work and then discovering art making. That led me to Vancouver for study and work opportunities. I connected with the city’s most vulnerable citizens and saw how art can empower people personally and politically.
From there, I moved to the Arctic where Indigenous community members were addressing the effects of colonization by re-committing to culture, their land, and each other. I started off working with people of all ages and then focused on school-age children. I continue to teach and consult on trauma and child development.
The North inspired a deeper appreciation for my own culture, land, and kin. This is reflected in fibre-based art making and socially engaged projects.
