Laura Worrall, MC:AT

Director of Art Therapy Diploma Programs

To me, art therapy is about creating a space in which people can use art to ignite their imagination, and exercise their creativity in order to see their world in new ways.

VATI | Art Therapy Program Faculty | Peggy Clarkson, MA

I approach my work with both students and clients from a strengths-based perspective. I have always been interested in the role that creativity can play in building resiliency and capacity for people during difficult times. My other interests include sensorimotor art therapy and how the body, with the aid of different art materials, can heal and integrate.

My own art journey has been about creating for personal well-being. My art practice has long included messy abstract painting and finding rhythms within art materials to create, reflect, imagine and play. Recently, I have been curiously working with fiber and wool in order to explore, experiment and make. With this newer-to-me media, I am discovering rhythms both different and familiar.

Laura brings to her work at VATI over 30 years of art therapy experience. She completed a BA in Sociology from UBC, graduated from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute, and then earned her Master’s in Counselling with a specialization in Art Therapy (MC:AT) from the University of Calgary. She belongs to several associations and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor – Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS), a Registered Canadian Art Therapist (RCAT), and a Registered BC Art Therapist (BCATR). Her role at VATI includes clinical supervision, instruction, as well as curriculum and program development. Laura also operates a private practice and is particularly interested in working with vulnerable client populations.
