Sabette Thompson (she/her) is the Director of the Expressive Arts Therapy program at the Vancouver Arts Therapy Institute. She is an Expressive Arts Therapist and a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Sabette graduated from the Vancouver Expressive Arts program and holds a Masters of Arts in Expressive Arts Therapy with a Minor in Psychology from the European Graduate School.

Her background includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology and post graduate training in the field of education.
Sabette has worked in community non-profit agency settings. Her focus of practice has been supporting children, youth and adults who have experienced trauma. She appreciates the resource-oriented perspective of expressive arts where curiosity and play support new learning and continues to be inspired by the ways in which the multimodal use of the arts creates embodied opportunities to gain new insight.
Sabette lives and works on traditional, unceded, homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She has been an outdoor adventurer since her early teens where she attended a school that integrated the outdoors into education. This experience inspired her interest in supporting the emergence of nature-based work as a modality in expressive arts practices. Sabette maintains her connection to the arts through a ceramics practice and creative projects and play with her children.
